I Wrote a Kid's Book!

Hello! My name is Jessi and my dream is to become a children’s book author to create stories that spark curiosity and imagination. I currently work in IT sales for an international web hosting company. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English Writing and a Children’s Literature certificate. Writing always has been a passion and favorite pastime. While the world slowed down to battle a pandemic, I hunkered down to use this time to turn my lifelong dream into a reality. My black Labrador, Phantom, has been a big help listening to countless edits and rewrites during the last few months.

Bringing fresh air, sunshine and great stories together for my neighbors.

Story Hour at the Park

The pandemic presents unique challenges to parents of young children. Many of my friends and neighbors clock in to two full-time jobs each morning: working their profession from home and coaxing their kids through a full day of virtual learning. The pressures and demand to multi-task are tremendous. Excessive screen time has a negative impact on everyone. I wanted to help alleviate some of that stress. I started a weekly story hour in the park. The point is to take a break from the screens, enjoy stories read out loud in nature and relax. I promise fresh air, a scenic backdrop, the sunshine (or clouds), fun stories, and all are free to come and go as they please. I cut 2x2 foot pieces of fabric and place them more than six feet away from everything else so everyone is comfortably social distancing. Masks are required; the distance and mask make it a little hard to hear me but a bright pink megaphone turns a challenge into a quirky twist.

I read stories from some of my favorite children's book authors, including Jonathan Stutzman, Mo Willems, and Leonie Lord.

Story Hour in the Park is taking a winter break until the sun stays out long enough to read outside after dinnertime. If you live in the greater Philadelphia area and want to join Story Hour in the Park, all are welcome! Use my email address in the footer to get in touch about the details.
